Absent Clijsters in Clay Season

The Belgian, Kim Clijsters, announced on Tuesday that he will pass the match play phase of the season on clay, including the French Open, hoping he can recover from a hip injury in time to play on the grass phase.

"The process of rehabilitation following a hip injury Kim took place more slowly than expected," the statement contained on the site of former world number one tennis player. "Kim would not be able to return to training with the ball for three weeks."

Clijsters said, "My physical condition is not currently possible to make I will go to Roland Garros with optimal conditions."

Clijsters intends to return to competition at the tournament Rosmalen in the Netherlands, which will begin on June 17.
